About DJ Matt Murphy

Born and raised in Charleston, WV, I attended Marshall University in Huntington, WV earning a BFA in Music Performance. In 2017, I began my career at WVRC Media in Charleston, currently serving as Traffic Manager, Assistant Promotions Manager, Producer on 580-WCHS, and radio personality on 99.9FM V100. Leaning on my experiences as a musician and broadcaster, I bring a strong love for music and people to my work as a mobile DJ. I’ve always been deeply passionate about music, and being able to share these interests with people from all over our region is truly an honor!

I am an avid traveler, with an eye on Eastern Europe or Japan in the near future. I also love reading, and I dabble some with photography as well. Lately, I’ve been going old-school, shooting on 35mm film. I’m a punk rock/ska kid at heart, crossed with a love for modern pop artists like Dua Lipa and throwback artists like Michael Jackson.

I firmly believe that “ya’ll means all,” and I work hard to reflect this belief in my work. At the end of the day, my philosophy is simple: We all deserve to shake that ass!!

What are your hobbies? I love to travel! I also pretend to be a photographer, and I enjoy reading quite a bit, too. For the record, I am always on the hunt for the best tasting pepperoni roll in WV.
What are you passionate about? Music! I’ve been passionate about music since I was just a little kid, which turned into passion for music as an adult, which turned into me becoming DJ Matt Murphy!
What is the greatest accomplishment of your life? Graduating with my BFA from Marshall!
What is on your bucket list? I want to see the Northern Lights in Iceland!
What family member are you closest to? My grandmother. I count my blessings every day that I still get to experience things with her.
What skill would you most like to learn? I want to learn how to fly a plane and get my pilot’s license!
Where is the coolest place you traveled? Edinburgh, Scotland - If you’ve never been to Scotland before, do yourself the favor and GO!!
What does your average weekend look like? Hopefully DJing your party! Seriously though… If I’m not working, you’ll probably find me ordering coffee somewhere, grabbing a beer with friends, or eating something delicious.
What is the one thing that instantly makes your day better? I cannot stress enough how much better I feel by going for a walk. If I’m in the car, it’s windows down, stereo blasting!
What is your favorite random fact? You are 1cm taller when you first wake up in the morning than you are when you go to bed at night.
Describe your life in one sentence. Wear sunscreen, and turn it up!
Have you ever met a celebrity? Which celebrity would you like to meet? I’ve met Jennifer Garner a few times. I also met former Green Bay Packer Sterling Sharpe once. I am the engineer for Let’s Talk with Carl Lee, the former NFL All-Pro from the Minnesota Vikings. I would LOVE to meet Jeff Goldblum or Dolly Parton. If I could marry a celebrity though, it’d be Dua Lipa… Hey Dua, if you’re reading this… Hi. Oh!! One time, my cousin and I watched Panic! At the Disco with Charli XCX. Yes, WITH her. Ask me about it some time!
What is the grossest thing you would do for $100? Probably eat pineapple on pizza!! 🤢
